Today, we had the honour of joining St. Mary’s, St. Catherine’s and St. Helen’s Elementary Schools to honor our Veterans at the No Stone Left Alone Remembrance Ceremony at Mountainview Cemetery. This is the third year it was being held and the first year SFDS participated, in keeping with our core values of faith, learning, engage and serve.
Students prepared long before today to ensure the best understanding possible of the commitment our veterans made to keep our country and the world safe. The effort they put into writing about peace was highly commendable and what they achieved was incredibly moving.
Our prayer is that our students will put into action the lessons from our veterans and this particular experience to realize their part in being difference makers on the playground, in the classroom, in their neighbourhoods and as part of their families. In doing so, they are living out the Catholic World View, specifically Christian Service: Catholics are called to fully engage the world they live in and to live out the Gospel witness. To fully live the Gospel witness, we must act. In James 2:14 we are asked, “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?”
