Everyone from former parents of students and their children who are now teenagers to former librarian Mrs. Lucy Pacino and former principal Mrs. Cecilia McLaren waited in anticipation in the gymnasium for Mrs. Nicholson's grand entrance to the tune of Bette Midler's The Rose. As she processed down the centre of our gym, bashfully escorted by a boy from Grade 7 and from Kindergarten, Mrs. Nicholson was presented by a single rose by a student representing all the grades of our school, culminating with roses from her two handsome sons and her loving husband. We were grateful for the presence of our pastor, Father Smith who invoked a special blessing upon Mrs. Nicholson.
While graced in her special chair of honour, various students presented her with small gifts to help ease her into retirement! She also received a book filled with good wishes from every boy and girl in the school and a special garden stone done in a mosaic style created by the children.
The staff serenaded Mrs. Nicholson with lyrics written by our own Ms F, and her sons and husband seemed delighted to be part of this special event. To end the day, Mrs. Nicholson spoke movingly about her years at the school and recounted many fond impressions, thanking the children, their parents, and the staff profusely for her experience. She received many hugs and best wishes as the students filed back to their classrooms afterwards.
We wish many blessings upon you, Mrs. Nicholson. Your years of service and the many ways you made our school special will not be forgotten. Enjoy your retirement!
