Our Grade 6 and 7 boys finished second overall in their division,
competing against teams from St. Pius X, St. Anthony's (West Van) and St. Edmund's Schools. Coached by Mr. Franco Caligiuri, the boys have been practising twice a week since late August, as they attempted to come together as a united force of players in order to qualify for the tough competition at the final 8 tournament held by the CISVA at Burnaby Lake West Soccer Complex.
Skies were sunny and the conditions were ideal as the boys played their first game against Queen of All Saints. They held their opponents to a one goal difference until the end of the second half, losing 3-0. Next, they faced Our Lady of Sorrows, which turned out to be their best of three games, despite being tired after having just played. The boys came back from being behind a goal, thanks to Zeru and the goal he scored, which he followed by another one. Unfortunately, in the second half the other team scored two goals to take the lead and the win. Special mention goes to Matteo and Daniel for stepping up to play in net during our last game due to Anthony, our regular keeper, suffering an injury.
We are thankful for our parent coach, Mr. Caligiuri, our teacher sponsor, Mr. Chapman, and for all our parents who supported the boys by ensuring they made it to practice and who drove them to and from games during the soccer season.
