The Grade 3 and 6 classes are planning on visiting the seniors at New Vista Care Home (7550 Rosewood St.) on Wed. Oct. 23rd to carry out our theme, “I Can Do All Things Through Christ” and give back to the seniors in our community.  We will participate in various activities such as playing cards, games, doing an art activity, reading to the seniors as well as singing some Halloween songs.  Students are asked to wear their proper uniform for the morning and put on Halloween accessories at lunch to wear to the centre!

We will require 6 - 8 parent volunteers to accompany us walking to the center and during the activities.  You will earn two volunteer hours for this. We will be leaving the school promptly at 1:00 and returning by 3:00.  Remember, we will be walking ‘rain or shine’, so please be prepared for inclement weather with umbrellas, rain coats, good walking shoes or boots.  The walk will take approximately 20 minutes each way. We will be divided into groups upon arrival and hope to have about an hour at the centre to visit with the seniors.

If you would like to volunteer to help on the day, we would ask that you return the portion below promptly as we will only be able to give volunteer hours to the parents who return their forms first.  We will let you know who these parents are as soon as possible. If you would still like to attend, we are more than happy for you to accompany us!

Thanks in advance for your involvement and assisting us as we show the spirit of SFDS to people in our community who might be in need of a little company and joy in their lives!

This field trip relates to the BC curriculum. Big Ideas:

Career Ed. - Practicing respectful, ethical, inclusive behaviour prepares us for the expectations of the workplace. New experiences, both within and outside of school, expand our career skill set and options.

Curricular Competencies: Examine the importance of service learning and the responsibility of individuals to contribute to the community and the world. Explore volunteer opportunities and other new experiences outside of school and recognize their value in career development.

Catholic Principles of Learning: LOVE - Catholic Education calls us to witness that God is love; and therefore, recognizes the inherent dignity of every human person, especially the marginalized and most vulnerable.

SFDS Core Values: Serve: Seeking and accepting the call to act for the greater good.
