Congratulations go to our grade 7 boys who never lost a game at the tournament in North Vancouver on Wednesday. In addition, they also won the 'hot shot' contest, which went into a tie initially, and then thanks to the good fortune of Paul O., who is new to hockey, SFDS came in first. The boys faced two tough games against the mighty team from St. Anthony's in West Van, the second of which went into overtime, meaning a shoot out would determine the victor. Our goalie, Ivan V, and our shooters Markus, Matthew and Noah led us to earning another trophy for our case. Congratulations to tournament MVP Markus R who exemplified not only talent but more importantly the spirit of what the whole team carried, and for which we were noticed and complimented multiple times during the course of the day by teachers, referees, and other parents: a spirit of good sportsmanship and understanding that they were there to play for fun and to ensure that everyone else also had fun. You honoured SFDS School, boys, and for that we are grateful and proud. Special thanks to our parent drivers, Mr. C for helping coach (and drive) and to St. Edmund's School - in particular Mr. Dotto - for hosting this tournament, and giving all the athletes an opportunity to learn about themselves and the character they have as they practised demonstrating persistence, loyalty, resilience, communication skills in their interactions with one another and with other players, coaches, and referees, as well as athleticism.
