On Monday, June 17, we plan to take our kindergarten children on a very special field trip to The Honeybee Centre in Surrey. We will be leaving the school at noon and returning at approximately 3:00pm.

This will be a great opportunity to extend our learning from all of our lessons on bees and plants thus far, as the children have shown so much enthusiasm and interest in these subjects.

We have arranged for an afternoon of “Bee School” consisting of bee & beekeeping activities, group games, and break-out activities. There will be 4 stations entitled: All about Bees, Pollination, Extraction and Civic Duty.

Please visit the website www.honeybeecentre.com to learn more about the centre and what we will be experiencing on the field trip.

Driving and Parent Volunteers: In order for this trip to occur, we require parents to volunteer to drive to and from the centre.

Parent volunteers will also be encouraged to participate in Bee School (as long as they put away their cell phones :)). Alternatively, if parents do not want to be part of Bee School, they are welcome to enjoy the “Beestro & Honey Shop” in the main building while they wait. We are hoping there are lots of excited parents wanting to join us!!

*Parents would get 3 volunteer hours if they participate in Bee School by helping manage the students. If you drive but opt out of participating further, you will get 1 volunteer hour.

The address is 7480 176th Street, Surrey, BC, V3S 7B1. We will hand out directions closer to the day. Please indicate on the form going home if you are able to drive. It would be greatly appreciated!

Allergies:Please also indicate on the form if your child has an allergy to bee stings or to honey; (we will be doing some tasting)!

While there are bees on the property, the program takes place inside a classroom.  If we go outside, the chance of getting stung is exactly the same as visiting a park.  The Honeybee Centre does their best to set up a space with safety in mind.
